PANDAVA BAKHARA

“You need a special shoes for hiking and a bit of a special soul as well.” You might have heard about this quote.so,today I am going to take you on a virtual tour of Pandava Bakhara,a historical site. To go and explore this place , you will need an adventurous mind and soul.

 

 

It is located in Pathapur,Pathapur is a small village in Banki(Cuttack district). It is about 50kms from Bhubaneshwar, which will take around 1hr and 15 mins.ASI has identified this ancient heritage. It’s geographical location is inside the Chandaka forest.

The caves inside the hills are named as Pandava Bakhara, Diarakhola, Tiger cave,Chanchali cave, Kalia Taila cave,Narahari cave and Anahat cave. There is a lake situated adjacent to the hill near the Mahanadi river. It is assumed that there was a civilization near that river. Few years back a research team discovered traces of human settlements and civilization which they stated as old as 4000 years. According to locals,the rock shelter was the abode of the Pandavas during their exile and hence the shelter is called Pandava Bakhara.

 

The distance of the rock shelter from the ground level is approximately around 1km and there is no specific way to reach there. Because of this reason it is less explored compared to other historical sites. It has no commutable path. But there is a famous quote “when everything feels like an uphill struggle, just think of the view from the top.” Nothing comes easily, so you have to put in bit of effort to enjoy the scenic beauty of this lost treasure.

Artworks on reptiles, weapons and geometrical signs are found which were assumed to be of the new stone age and copper age. It also inferred that people were living in Pathapur, Kusapangi and Gayabank areas 3500 to 4000 years ago.

There is a tribal family that resides under the foothill of Pandava Bakhara. People come together at the shelter for festivity during the Rajasankranti each year. You can take help from a local person for trekking to the highest peak .
